Briana Vigil Mossman is an oboist from San Diego, California. She began playing clarinet in 5th grade and quickly fell in love with music. While attending Helix Charter High School, she began studying oboe with Andrea Overturf (3rd oboe/English horn in the San Diego Symphony). Her love of oboe led to many positions in various groups around San Diego, including the City Ballet of San Diego orchestra, Young Actors Theater orchestra, San Diego Youth Symphony, East County Youth Symphony, Grossmont College concert band, and the Cuyamaca College concert band. She earned both the Outstanding Freshman and the Outstanding Senior in Band award during her four years at Helix.
In 2018, she graduated from UCLA with a degree in Oboe Performance under the tutelage of Jonathan Davis. Her time at UCLA was filled with many exciting musical endeavors and principal seats in the Philharmonia Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and the UCLA Opera orchestra. During the summer, she participated in the Idyllwild Music Festival, the Marrowstone Music Festival, and the Madeline Island Music Festival. During her junior and senior year, she worked at RDG Woodwinds, a staple in the double reed world.
Now residing in La Mesa, Briana teaches oboe privately in her home and for the Poway Unified School District. She regularly performs around the San Diego area in groups such as the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra, Finest City Wind Ensemble, and more. She is currently working at the San Diego Youth Symphony as their early childhood team’s Program Coordinator and Teaching Artist.
